Rich, velvety, and surprisingly simple to make, these Bennetto chocolate truffle balls are the kind of treat that feels a little bit fancy without needing much effort at all.
Made with just a handful of ingredients, they’re perfect for a cosy weekend, a homemade gift, or a little after-dinner chocolate moment. We like using coconut cream here because it gives the truffles a beautifully soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture, while still letting the flavour of the dark chocolate shine through.
You can make these with your favourite Bennetto organic dark chocolate bar, but Orange with Chilli works especially well if you love a little warmth and citrusy depth.
Ingredients
- 80g Bennetto organic dark chocolate
- 40g butter, finely cubed and at room temperature
- 40g coconut cream
- Cocoa powder, for coating
You can use regular cream instead of coconut cream, but we prefer coconut cream for that extra-smooth, melt-in-the-mouth finish.
Method
1. Melt the chocolate
Break the Bennetto chocolate into pieces and melt gently in a double boiler until fully melted and warm.
2. Add the butter
Remove from the heat and add the finely cubed butter. Stir continuously until the butter has melted completely from the warmth of the chocolate.
3. Stir in the coconut cream
Add the coconut cream and continue stirring until the mixture thickens and becomes slightly “blobby” in texture.
If the mixture is too runny, pop it in the fridge briefly, stirring every few minutes until it thickens enough to spoon.
4. Spoon and set
Line a tray with baking paper, then spoon the mixture into small portions. Refrigerate for around 30 minutes, or until set.
5. Roll in cocoa powder
Once set, roll each truffle in cocoa powder until evenly coated.
6. Enjoy
Serve straight from the fridge or let them sit for a few minutes before eating for an even softer texture.
A little tip
These truffles are intentionally rustic, so don’t worry about making them perfectly round. The slightly uneven, cocoa-dusted finish is part of their charm.
Best chocolate to use
This recipe works beautifully with any Bennetto organic dark chocolate bar, depending on the flavour you’re after.
For a classic rich truffle, try Original Dark 70%.
For something bold and intense, use Super Dark 82%.
For a warm winter twist, Orange with Chilli is a delicious choice, bringing together smooth dark chocolate, citrus, and a gentle chilli warmth.
Storage
Store your truffles in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy them within a few days.
They also make a lovely homemade gift. Simply pop them into a jar or small box, add a ribbon, and you’ve got a thoughtful chocolate treat made with just a few simple ingredients.
