OUR STORY

We are a small company in the big world of chocolate – but we know that makes us special. We thoughtfully care for every part of what we do.

Bennetto Natural Foods Company was founded by Lucy Bennetto in 2010, a real food lover and inspiration behind everything we do.

We take time to understand our own impact in the world. We pay careful consideration to our people, our animals and our planet, and at every step we look at ways to minimise our footprint the best we can.

We have passion and pride for all our products. We make sure our customers continue to love our products, as they too appreciate the attention to detail and joy from life’s small pleasures -from the delicious chocolate, generous flavours to the beautiful artwork on the packaging.

We like to do things differently. We love to innovate with new ideas, original flavours and ways to enjoy all things natural and edible without anything added that really shouldn’t be there. Natural-creative-deliciousness always takes high priority at Bennetto.

We’ve always aimed to do more than simply produce great chocolate. Our hope is that we inspire people everywhere, to be thoughtful in every aspect of their lives and business – not just because it’s nice, but because it’s vital to the continued wellbeing of the people and the world we live in.

Drinking Chocolate Bars

MEET LUCY BENNETTO

With a desire to see first hand how the cacao beans were grown, Lucy travelled to the Dominican Republic. This was the moment she saw how ethical sourcing from an organic and Fairtrade cocoa supply was imperative to her values of making chocolate and how these practices not only improve lives but also the quality and flavour of cocoa.

From the kitchen benchtop, Lucy then started refining chocolate using an Indian spice grinder. Many experiments later Lucy continues to develop new chocolate recipes.  The majority of Bennetto chocolate products are hand made by Lucy and her team in Christchurch, and recently she has partnered with a Swiss manufacturer to co-produce the 100g bars. The majority of cocoa is now sourced from Acopagro, a Fairtrade cooperative at the base of the Amazon Jungle in Peru.
